There are times in my life when I am surrounded by people who are desperate, sad, confused, or feel like life is no longer worth living. During these periods, I often feel inadequate: What can I do or say to support the other person?
I can listen, encourage, and support. I can think about it. I can pray for them… but that is as far as it goes. I cannot do more, because these people have to manage on their own.
If these people do not know the Lord Jesus, it is even more difficult… where does a person find hope then?
King David was a man after God’s own heart. In many psalms, he cried out for help, for comfort, for protection. He thanked the Lord with all his heart and soul. He sang to the Lord and tried time and again to seek contact with his God.
Today, we can learn a lot from the psalms of David: it does not matter how difficult things are for you, because God is with you.
Not everyone will show their despair to others. Some people struggle with a silent sorrow, a sorrow that cannot come out through tears or by talking about it. They are trapped in the pain. Who can help them?
As a friend, daughter, sister, or sister in faith, I can only point out all the people in the Bible who were burdened by the same feelings: you are not the only person going through such a difficult time.
Just read in the Bible what those people did to get back on their feet. And then seek the peace that only the Lord can give… by talking to Him, by singing to Him, and by opening your heart to Him so that He can comfort you.

Is there a place in your home where you can come to God?
If not, then you can start thinking about such a spot for yourself. That could be a specific corner of the room, a chair in the garden, or another place where you can be alone for a moment. Then make it a place where you meet God. You can place a Bible there, light a candle, and place other objects that remind you: I am a child of God.
